Computing Utility from Weighted Description Logic Preference Formulas
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a framework to compute the utility of a proposal w.r.t. a preference set in a negotiation process. In particular, we refer to preferences expressed as weighted formulas in a decidable fragment of First-order Logic. Specifically, we refer to expressive Description Logics (DL) endowed with disjunction. DLs offer expressivity advantages over propositional representations, and allow us to relax the often unrealistic assumption of additive independence among attributes. We provide suitable definitions of the problem and present algorithms to compute utility in our setting. We also study complexity issues of our approach and demonstrate its usefulness with a running example in a multiattribute negotiation scenario.

Weighted Description Logics Preference Formulas for Multiattribute Negotiation
We propose a framework to compute the utility of an agreement w.r.t. a preference set in a negotiation process. In particular, we refer to preferences expressed as weighted formulas in a decidable fragment of First-order Logic and agreements expressed as a formula. We ground our framework in Description Logics (DL) endowed with disjunction, to be compliant with Semantic Web technologies. A logi...
متن کاملPreference Modeling by Weighted Goals with Max Aggregation
Logic-based preference representation languages are promising for expressing preferences over combinatorial domains. Sets of weighted formulas, called goalbases, can be used to define several such languages. How goalbases are translated into utility functions—that is, by what aggregation function this is done—is a crucial component of this type of language. In this paper, we consider the proper...
متن کاملExpressive Power of Weighted Propositional Formulas for Cardinal Preference Modeling
As proposed in various places, a set of propositional formulas, each associated with a numerical weight, can be used to model the preferences of an agent in combinatorial domains. If the range of possible choices can be represented by the set of possible assignments of propositional symbols to truth values, then the utility of an assignment is given by the sum of the weights of the formulas it ...
متن کاملPreference Queries
The handling of user preferences is becoming an increasingly important issue in present-day information systems. Among others, preferences are used for information filtering and extraction to reduce the volume of data presented to the user. They are also used to keep track of user profiles and formulate policies to improve and automate decision making. We propose here a simple, logical framewor...
متن کاملMeasurement-Theoretic Foundations of Preference Aggregation Logic for Weighted Utilitarianism
Harsanyi [4, 5] develops expected utility theory of von Neumann and Morgenstern [21] to provide two formalizations of utilitarianism. Weymark [22, 23] refers to these results as Harsanyi’s Aggregation and Impartial Observer Theorems. In this paper, we are concerned only with Aggregation Theorem. Sen [6] argues that von Neumann-Morgenstern expected utility theory is an ordinal theory and, theref...
